Week of October 28th - Worshiping God by Going

Key Thought:
There is something in us that drives us to settle down and create a secure and familiar life for ourselves. We feel secure being able to predict how our day and week will progress, and we become disturbed when we encounter disruptions to those plans. Those disruptions can take the form of unexpected and negative circumstances that invade our life, such as being laid off from a job, having a good friend move away, losing use of your vehicle, becoming ill, etc. A Christ-follower makes every effort to accept these circumstances as part of God’s plan. However, there are also times in our life when the potential disruption is not some random happening, but is offered as an option by God. We get to choose to disrupt our own life and routines or to simply keep things as status quo. It is in these moments of decision (when we feel the tension between doing what God has called us to do, and what our carnal nature wants) that we face a worship decision. Do I worship God above my own comfort? Do I worship God by allowing myself to enter a period of life that is no longer predictable, but is in fact now full of the unknown? Following God into the unknowns of life is very difficult, but God knows that and He is pleased that you would worship Him in this way!

Sermon:
Take some time to write down some important thoughts that have stuck with you from Steve’s Sermon “Going” (Oct 28th, 2007).

Bible Reading:
Monday – Ezra 1:1-11
Tuesday – Exodus 17:1-7
Wednesday – Numbers 33:48-56
Thursday – Luke 13:33-35
Friday – Acts 13

Key Questions to Ponder During the Week:

  1. What routines are you currently comfortable with and enjoying in your life?
  2. What are some of your long-range goals that you are working toward?
  3. How would you feel if God asked you to make a change in your life that jeopardized your current routines and goals?
  4. Have you already gone through a major life disruption? Was it by your own choice or did it happen unexpectedly?
  5. Do you face a choice right now where God is asking you to step out of your comfort zone?
